About This Role

This role involves performing difficult property control duties, serving as a lead worker, and maintaining accurate records for the Anaheim Police Department, ensuring compliance with legal procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex property control duties of the unit
  • Serve as a lead worker over other staff in the unit
  • Maintain and issue equipment used by police officers and department personnel, keeping accurate inventory records
  • Place orders to replenish office supplies and act as liaison with the purchasing division
  • Receive, store, and maintain custody of evidence and other property in accordance with laws and procedures
  • Release evidence to officers for court and case study, and property to rightful owners
  • Accurately enter and update all property and evidence into the computerized inventory system
  • Conduct periodic inventory of equipment and property, researching missing items
  • Destroy or dispose of evidence and property according to applicable laws and procedures
  • Safely deliver motor vehicles to and from repair facilities and maintain inventory of police vehicles
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and co-workers regarding property and evidence release
  • Assign work, train, and review the work of property and evidence personnel

Requirements

  • Experience with police evidence and property control
  • Knowledge of basic math and accounting processes
  • Knowledge of computer programs like Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access
  • Knowledge of advanced record keeping procedures
  • Knowledge of basic material handling procedures and safety precautions
  • Knowledge of laws and procedures related to evidence preservation
  • Ability to maintain accurate records
  • Ability to operate a forklift and pallet jack
  • Ability to operate a vehicle safely
  • Ability to perform evidence and property control duties with high accuracy
  • Ability to establish and maintain filing and record-keeping systems
  • Ability to train and supervise subordinates
  • Ability to write legibly
  • Ability to understand and apply pertinent procedures without immediate supervision
  • Ability to ensure adherence to local, state, and federal laws governing property, evidence, and firearms

Qualifications

  • Experience performing responsible police evidence and property control work and supply technician duties.
