Senior Process Engineer

About This Role

This Senior Process Engineer role involves providing high-level technical expertise in process engineering for biogas utilization projects. The position requires translating complex process concepts into practical system designs and offering strategic feedback for process optimization and reliability enhancement.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a senior technical expert in process engineering for project development and execution across engineering services and EPC projects.
• Drive effective communication and collaboration across engineering disciplines by proactively coordinating design interfaces and sharing technical insights.
• Identify gaps in process design approaches, tools, and resources, and recommend improvements to department leadership.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineers.
• Prepare complex engineering drawings and documentation for permitting, estimating, bidding, and construction.
• Lead the development and review of key process engineering deliverables, including Project Design Basis documents, BFDs, PFDs, equipment specifications, and P&IDs.
• Develop control philosophies and cause-and-effect charts for advanced process systems.
• Participate as a senior technical contributor in project HAZOP and other process safety reviews.
• Perform and validate advanced engineering calculations, including material and energy balances, and equipment sizing.
• Support the review and resolution of contractor RFIs.
• Collaborate closely with ESI’s Operations Division to troubleshoot process issues and optimize system performance.
• Apply knowledge of ASME, API, ASTM, and other relevant industry standards to ensure compliance and technical excellence.
• Use advanced thermodynamic, chemical, and physical analysis to develop and refine process systems and unit operations.

Requirements

• 10+ years of engineering experience
• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university
• Proficiency with chemical process simulation software (Aspen, BR&E Promax or others)
• Valid driver’s license for state of residence
• Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of software

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university
• 10+ years of engineering experience.

Nice to Have

• Experience in Renewable Energy, Gas Processing, Chemical, Power, Waste Management, or Environmental Air Quality Control Systems
• PE or FE certification or ability to obtain certification
• Proficiency in Smartsheet or other project management software
