Senior Mechanical Engineer

About This Role

This role will own the mechanical design and development of tools, fixtures, and enclosures for an automated lab accelerating scientific and materials discovery. The Senior Mechanical Engineer will ensure the mechanical integrity and functionality of high-throughput experimental platforms.

Responsibilities

• Translate user and system requirements into clear mechanical specifications and interface definitions.
• Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Service (DFS) with vendors.
• Review drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)/tolerance stacks, and materials/finishes.
• Define and execute factory and site acceptance tests.
• Drive punch-list closure with integrators and suppliers.
• Support onsite assembly, alignment, anchoring, and rigging with contractors and facilities teams.
• Design and own fixtures, frames, guarding, enclosures, and mounting solutions for automation systems.
• Maintain Bills of Material (BOMs), revision control, and as-built documentation.
• Ensure machine safety and ergonomics.

Requirements

• BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 5-8+ years in mechanical design with vendor-facing manufacturing (machining, sheet metal, plastics)
• Strong CAD (e.g., SolidWorks & PDM), GD&T, tolerance analysis, and drawing control
• Experience with fixtures, frames, and enclosures for mechatronic/automation systems
• Comfortable working onsite for installs and bring-up in a fast-paced lab environment

Qualifications

• BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5-8+ years in mechanical design with vendor-facing manufacturing (machining, sheet metal, plastics).

Nice to Have

• Robotics/automation experience
• Exposure to P&IDs/utilities
• FEA for structural/thermal analysis
