This part-time School Crossing Guard position ensures the safe passage of children across streets and manages traffic flow around schools in Melbourne, FL.
Requirements
- Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, law enforcement officers, and the general public
- Ability to speak English clearly
- Ability to hear spoken words clearly
- Ability to grasp and hold a stop sign overhead
- Ability to walk into the street for visibility
- Ability to stand for extended periods (up to 2.5 hours)
- Ability to step up and down 6" curb
- Ability to work outside in all weather conditions
- Ability to distinguish traffic signal colors
- Ability to push pedestrian button
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred
Nice to Have
- Past school crossing experience
- Other work with school-age children
- Past experience in traffic direction/control
- Experience with a law enforcement agency
