About This Role

This Registered Nurse (RN) position in the Critical Care Float Pool is responsible for independently providing patient care using the nursing process, performing leadership and teaching duties, and supporting continuous quality improvement activities within Frederick Health.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, and discharge planning needs of patients.
  • Use knowledge and experience to identify patient needs and prioritize treatment, accurately documenting and communicating subtle changes in patient assessment.
  • Provide initial assessment and reassessments according to organizational and department standards.
  • Anticipate potential changes in a patient's condition and respond appropriately, as well as anticipating needs based on assessment findings.
  • Ensure an effective individualized plan of care for assigned patients, utilizing available resources.
  • Efficiently organize and prioritize patient care, seeking assistance as necessary.
  • Actively participate in the development of standards of care according to departmental, organizational, professional, or regulatory standards.
  • Implement the plan of care in compliance with hospital and nursing policies, documenting interventions and patient response.
  • Assure that the patient/family are updated regarding the patient's status and any changes in the patient or plan of care.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in patient assignments and evaluate nursing care, tools, and equipment related to patient care.
  • Provide patient/family education, assessing learning needs, establishing goals, and implementing and evaluating teaching plans.
  • Incorporate suggestions for self-development and performance, meet clinical ladder requirements, and promote staff retention and morale.
  • Utilize supplies, equipment, and technology to ensure quality patient care and float to other nursing units as requested.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability qualities, fostering professional communication among healthcare team members.
  • Demonstrate effective delegation skills and precepting/mentoring skills for RNs and ancillary staff.

Requirements

  • Eligible for or currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in State of Maryland or compact state
  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing
  • Certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • BLS certification within 90-days of hire
  • Clinical competency in departmental area of practice
  • Ability to use technology and equipment to perform job duties
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to handle a physically demanding environment
