About This Role

This role involves utilizing the nursing process to provide therapeutic care to patients during the perioperative phase, focusing on assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care within the surgical setting. The Registered Nurse will coordinate and deliver care to meet the identified needs of patients, addressing physiological, psychological, sociocultural, and spiritual responses to surgical intervention.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Universal Patient Safety Goals in all areas of practice
  • Adhere to safety standards of labeling medication on and off the sterile field
  • Consistently transfer scientific knowledge in applying the nursing process to formulate care plans
  • Perform skills essential to nursing action to be taken
  • Delegate tasks to others based on scope of practice, preparation, and capability
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care and modify plans by observation and interpretation of information
  • Act as patient advocate by initiating action to advance plan of care and support change decisions
  • Ensure electrical, laser, and radiology safety in the OR
  • Ensure intraoperative MRI safety and follow correct site surgery/surgical time out standards
  • Perform autoclave/Steris operation correctly with appropriate documentation
  • Communicate information to all staff using SBAR in hand-off communication
  • Accurately document patient charges, implant records, pathology specimens, and preoperative records
  • Accurately utilize Cerner system in documentation and update preference cards as needed
  • Adhere to policy for instrument, sponge, and sharps count
  • Maintain current knowledge of surgical anatomy and procedures, applying it to prepare equipment and supplies
  • Participate in hospital and departmental wide Process Improvement activities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • 1 year of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience in an acute setting
  • Excellent communication skills (speak, read, write English proficiently)
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions
  • Ability to understand and perform duties including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures
  • Valid California Registered Nursing license
  • BLS Healthcare Provider certification
  • Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) within 30 days of hire

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • 1 year operating room nurse experience in an acute setting immediately prior to application

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association
