Recreation Aide Summer Camp Staff

About This Role

The City of Kalamazoo Parks and Recreation department is seeking dependable and responsible individuals to work at their Camp Kazoo or Super Rec Summer Camp Sites. This seasonal position involves leading or assisting with various recreational activities for children aged 5-12.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement 9-week lesson plans for performing arts, arts & crafts, or sports & games
• Ensure campers have a blast while learning about various forms of performing arts
• Lead pre-planned activities when another staff is absent
• Assist Site Supervisor with other camp activities
• Supervise small groups of participants on field trips
• Greet, supervise, and ensure participants are properly checked in each morning for early drop-off
• Guide participants to the correct Camp sites
• Provide coverage or assistance at any program area as an All-Day Substitute

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Must possess valid driver license
• Must be available to work 9 weeks (Mid-May – Mid August)
• Flexible and caring individuals who enjoy working with program participants ages 5 to 12

Qualifications

• Prior youth work experience highly preferred or working towards a degree in a youth field

Nice to Have

• Prior youth work experience
• Working towards a degree in a youth field
• Background or direct experience in acting, improv, music, and/or dance
• Background or direct experience in 2D, 3D, clay, and painting
• Background or direct experience in playing team sports or games
• Reliable transportation (for All-Day Substitute)
