About This Role

Coordinate and lead the Prevention Services program, focusing on behavioral health issues like substance abuse and under-age drinking among tribal youth in the Maricopa area. This role involves program development, staff coordination, budget management, and securing external funding.

Responsibilities

  • Act as program lead, prioritizing and assigning daily work in the Guadalupe area
  • Assist with staff training and evaluation for the project
  • Seek and maintain external funding sources for the program
  • Monitor program budget levels, expenditures, and initiate budget revisions
  • Develop a database for tracking demographics of served populations (direct and indirect)
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures relevant to program content and implementation
  • Coordinate with other departments and programs to evaluate and review practices, making recommendations to reduce harm from substance abuse and under-age drinking
  • Develop and implement program objectives, incorporating tribal culture in educational activities
  • Develop youth programs to educate on dangers of substance abuse and alcohol abuse
  • Write, review, and update semi-annual and annual reports summarizing activities and program progress, submitting them to ADHS on time
  • Develop and implement assessment tools and procedures, including creation of a database, survey tools, and reporting documents for data analysis
  • Develop, present, and monitor educational programs for the community on substance abuse prevention
  • Attend and participate on committees to promote and gain support for the program

Requirements

  • Supervisory and budget management principles and practices
  • Knowledge of assigned department operations and functions
  • Report preparation techniques
  • Ability to develop a Prevention Logic Model based on local substance and alcohol statistical data and the Strategic Prevention Framework process
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules and regulations
  • Principles and practices of prevention education and counseling
  • Manage and execute multiple tasks and work independently
  • Exercise judgment and discretion, prioritize and assign work
  • Plan and execute group travel involving instate and out of state destinations
  • Work with ad hoc tribal and outside agencies committees to plan community events
  • Crisis intervention, teaching and listening skills
  • Ability to manage and oversee a budget, report on expenses to ADHS, conduct surveys of participants, perform data analysis and provide required reports to ADHS in a timely fashion
  • Complex problem solving and safety planning
  • Development and implementation of data base programs used for community surveys and grant required information
  • Ability to develop and prepare a variety of correspondence, reports, articles, documents and forms
  • Ability to work with individuals that are under emotional stress and provide appropriate emotional support
  • Ability to intervene with sensitivity to halt danger, increase safety and advocate for accountability, making appropriate referrals as needed
  • Implement project goals with minimal supervision
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from other department, cities, agencies, organizations, and communities
  • Maintain confidentiality of information
  • Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License
  • Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card and maintain it

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Behavioral Health or related field
  • Four (4) years of experience with prevention related programs; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Nice to Have

  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
  • Knowledge of Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn
