Producer/Editor

About This Role

This role is for a versatile and innovative Producer/Editor to create compelling content for live programming and push the boundaries of news. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, producing, editing, and distributing content for Scripps News and its local media portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Write, produce and edit content for live programming, taped or magazine-style programming
• Responsible for the creative look and feel of segments, adhering to brand vision
• Make content decisions for promotions and/or programs ensuring alignment with brand strategy
• Research approved PKG (package) topics
• Schedule, vet and interview guests for inclusion in PKGs
• Work independently and collaborate with reporters, videographers, editors, writers and producers to generate finished news packages
• Manage multiple projects at once
• Develop a network of formal and informal sources across the country to generate story ideas
• Stay abreast of news developments to generate story ideas
• Pitch story and guest ideas and participate in monthly pitch meetings
• Backfill producers and editors
• May be responsible for entire projects or functions where general guidance and training of less experienced personnel are needed

Requirements

• 5 years of experience as a writer, producer, and/or editor
• Proficient in producing content and video editing
• Excellent writer
• Ability to meet daily deadlines
• Advanced knowledge of rundown and video editing software

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications or equivalent experience
• 5 years of experience as a writer, producer, and/or editor

Nice to Have

• Experience using iNews and Adobe Premiere
• Team player with strong attention to detail
• Ability to work calmly under pressure
