Principal Electrical Engineer

About This Role

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role responsible for defining product requirements, translating those requirements into implementable architectures, and delivering manufacturable, reliable electrical designs. The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead complex electrical design efforts, mentor other engineers, and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure products meet customer, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design projects and contribute to electrical design standards and best practices
• Translate product requirements into implementable electrical architectures
• Perform detailed electronic design of microprocessor-based platforms and related analog/digital circuits
• Create schematics using Cadence OrCAD or Altium, with simulation using SPICE, HyperLynx, or similar tools
• Conduct design analysis to ensure products are cost-effective, manufacturable, reliable, and customer-focused
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design verification test reports, PCB placement and routing guidelines, rework instructions, and Analysis of Alternatives documents
• Maintain organized design artifacts using version control systems
• Complete engineering projects within budget and schedule constraints
• Mentor and guide engineers across multiple disciplines
• Coordinate with engineers and, when needed, serve as a project manager to drive execution

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
• 15+ years of experience in product design
• Strong experience with embedded systems and microprocessor-based designs
• Expertise across the full product lifecycle: Requirements definition, Electrical design and analysis, Design for Manufacturing (DFM) / Design for Test (DFT), Design verification
• Proven experience leading and mentoring engineering teams across disciplines
• Working knowledge of lab equipment: Oscilloscopes, Logic analyzers, Spectrum analyzers, Vector network analyzers
• Protocol-level experience with SPI, I2C, and UART
• Experience with analog design concepts and simulation tools (SPICE, HyperLynx preferred)
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including MS Project
• Strong communication skills with the ability to author technical documentation and present to varied audiences
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
• 15+ years of experience in product design

Nice to Have

• Exposure to RF communications (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi / 802.11, cellular)
• Experience with high-speed digital interfaces (DDR, PCIe, SATA)
• Experience in medical device or other regulated industries
