Principal Designer, Civil

About This Role

The Principal Designer, Civil will lead the development of high-quality civil drawings and 3D design models, focusing on grading, drainage, paving, and roads using Autodesk Civil 3D. This role ensures models comply with design criteria and supports project schedules through efficient design methods and on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the development of 3D design models and drawings for projects
• Contribute to the development of civil design criteria
• Setup files for 3D design models and drawings where needed
• Setup starting examples of 3D design models for others to continue
• Confirm that 3D design models are accurate, complete, and comply with design criteria
• Help keep projects on schedule by implementing efficient methods for producing drawings and 3D design models
• Contribute to the production of 3D design models and drawings
• Provide on-the-job training and guidance to engineers and designers in 3D modeling and drawings production
• Help develop design standards, guidelines, and templates

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in 3D Modeling of grading, drainage, paving, and roads in AutoDesk Civil 3D within the last 10 years
• 5+ years of "Detailed Design" experience in civil design
• 5+ years of experience in the Oil, Gas, and Chemical Industry
• 7+ years of experience in civil design

Qualifications

• Associate's Degree or higher in a Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD / CAD) related degree or a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering preferred
• 7+ years of experience in civil design, including 5+ years in 3D Modeling with AutoDesk Civil 3D and 5+ years of "Detailed Design" experience in civil design for multiple projects within the Oil, Gas, and Chemical Industry.

Nice to Have

• 10+ years of experience in Computer Aided Drafting and Design
• Experience with General 2D AutoCAD setups and best practices
• Experience with General Civil 3D Modeling functions, including automatic labels, styles, alignments, profiles, sections, assemblies, and corridors
• Expertise in Civil 3D Grading using feature lines and pasted surfaces
• Proficiency in Civil 3D Roads, including creating and modifying road assemblies and designing road profiles per industry standards
• Ability to create ditches from corridors that grade to a starting surface and use pipe networks for pipes, boxes, and drainage structures in Civil 3D Drainage
• Detail-oriented, comfortable with technical writing and basic geometric math
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, delegate work, and adapt to different design roles
