Primary Care Scribe

About This Role

The Primary Care Scribe will assist the doctor by accurately transcribing patient data into the medical record during examinations to optimize the doctor's time with patients. This role also supports the technician with administrative and clinical tasks, ensuring efficient patient flow and prepared exam rooms.

Responsibilities

• Accurately enter information into EHR as dictated by the doctor during exams
• Assist optometrist and ophthalmologist with patient procedures
• Escort patients to Optical and introduce them to the Optician, reiterating doctor’s recommendations
• Coordinate patient scheduling and monitor patient flow, communicating delays as needed
• Prepare exam rooms by cleaning instruments and maintaining inventory of medications and supplies
• Provide a safe, clean, organized, and inviting environment for patients and staff
• Prepare patients for eye examinations and vision therapy; confidentially instruct patients about medications, tests, and procedures
• Perform various vision and diagnostic tests
• Collect patient medical history and enter data into EHR
• Assist with answering telephones, scheduling appointments, and maintaining appointment books

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Proficient in EHR
• Exceptional keyboarding skills
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Detail oriented with strong organizational skills
• Ability to work efficiently and accurately
• Ability to obtain knowledge and skills on the job or through educational courses
• Polite, professional, and courteous

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent

• Previous experience in optometry
