About This Role

The Physical Therapist at Perkins' Secondary School will provide direct therapy and consultation to students with sensory and intellectual impairments, assess motor functioning, and develop individualized treatment plans.

Responsibilities

  • Review medical, family and educational history of the student
  • Assess the student's motor functioning to identify abilities and areas of need
  • Recommend appropriate therapy and develop individual therapeutic objectives for each student referred
  • Develop on-going treatment plan for each student receiving physical therapy
  • Provide direct physical therapy or supervise the delivery of physical therapy services as necessary
  • Recommend and order appropriate adaptive equipment or devices and maintain orthopedic equipment
  • Participate in program meetings, staff assignments, case reviews, and IEP or ISP meetings
  • Prepare oral or written reports of current progress and needs of students
  • Act as a liaison between physician or orthopedist and Perkins program staff
  • Provide field placement supervision to undergraduate and graduate students when appropriate

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Physical Therapy accredited by CAPTE
  • Experience working with students with sensory deficits in vision, multiple impairments or intellectual deficits

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Physical Therapy accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy (CAPTE)
  • Experience working with students with sensory deficits in vision, multiple impairments or intellectual deficits or equivalent combination of education and experience
