This role is responsible for the competent and expedient collection of blood and non-blood specimens, ensuring patient comfort and proper labeling. This position also operates basic laboratory equipment and performs clerical duties.
Responsibilities
- Collect blood and blood culture specimens
- Collect non-blood specimens including urine, sputum, semen samples, and throat swabs
- Perform chain of custody specimen collection
- Perform venipunctures and skin punctures competently and expediently
- Properly labels all specimens in the presence of the patient
- Operate basic laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, computer systems, and labeling printers
- Communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, clients, and staff
- Perform clerical duties such as filing, report distribution, processing, and faxing
- Collect drug screens using Chain of Custody Process
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience.
Nice to Have
- Phlebotomy Certification (CPT)
- Six (6) months of phlebotomy experience
