About This Role

The PH LABORATORY TECHNICIAN 2 supports laboratory testing and operations for the Tennessee Department of Health. This role involves both routine technical and non-technical tasks, contributing to public health efforts through accurate laboratory work.

Responsibilities

  • Assist laboratory personnel in laboratory testing processes and operations, including routine laboratory and administrative tasks
  • Prioritize workloads and complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner
  • Accurately receive, accession, and route specimens/samples to appropriate laboratory sections/areas
  • Assist in specimen/sample inventory and management, reagent/supply inventory, procurement, waste management, and preparation/distribution of materials
  • Perform routine equipment service and maintenance and assist in process improvements and troubleshooting
  • Communicate and coordinate laboratory operational and testing activities/tasks with personnel and supervisors
  • Notify laboratory supervisors/managers of operational issues and maintain effective communications
  • Participate in section and division activities and initiatives
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year full-time pertinent laboratory experience in a related field of study OR equivalent undergraduate/graduate work
  • Valid vehicle operator's license

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent with at least one year of pertinent laboratory experience, or equivalent undergraduate/graduate work in a related field.
  • At least one year of full-time, pertinent laboratory experience in a related field of study, or equivalent education.
