This AmeriCorps VISTA position at New Sun Rising aims to build capacity within the organization to uplift residents out of poverty through community and economic development. The role focuses on furthering work that invests in community and economic development to improve quality of life and increase access to capital and economic opportunity for under-resourced communities.
Responsibilities
- Support projects in food systems, clean energy, watershed management, air quality, mobility, business districts, and housing
- Focus on outreach, volunteer coordination, and grant writing to further sustainability initiatives
- Build capacity to implement the Borough of Millvale’s new Ecodistrict plan
- Participate in meetings to continue collaboration with neighbors in Etna and Sharpsburg
- Manage and improve communications systems for outreach activities
- Attend and present at community meetings
- Convene and participate in various meetings, training, events, and programs
- Recruit volunteers, map resources, and develop systems to increase the impact of the volunteer base
- Collect data to track progress of sustainability initiatives
Requirements
