The Pathology Technician supports clinical or anatomical laboratories by resolving order and specimen issues, responding to inquiries for test results, and performing specimen collection. This role involves pre-analytical specimen manipulation, equipment maintenance, and maintaining workload records.
Responsibilities
- Resolve problems with orders and/or specimens and respond to telephone inquiries for test results and specimen collection criteria.
- Prepare coolers for blood delivery, receive blood product inventory, scan digital slides, and file slides and tissue blocks.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance of equipment.
- Receive and deliver specimens and reports, compiling appropriate case data including correct specimen designation.
- Perform CLIA Waived Lab Testing and register/accession all patient material as required.
- Develop and maintain ordering and inventory processes/systems, assist with employee timekeeping, and pay reference lab invoices.
- Conduct data entry assistance and general glassware maintenance.
- Receive specimens, accession orders via Laboratory Computer System, verify technical specimen acceptability, and perform pre-analytical procedures.
- Prepare specimens for shipping utilizing knowledge of specimen handling and shipping of dangerous goods.
- Provide internal and/or external courier services, ensuring timely deliveries, if applicable.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory, reference laboratory, or college level laboratory course work
- Previous experience using a personal computer and entering data

Nice to Have
- Minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience using basic laboratory principles and procedures and handling specimens
- One year of post high school education in a Health Science field
