This role involves preparing surgical pathology specimens, maintaining a clean and organized laboratory area, and managing telephone communications and computer specimen entry. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount when handling medical information and patient data.
Responsibilities
- Prepare surgical pathology specimens
- Maintain surgical pathology preparatory area in a well-maintained and clean condition
- Manage telephones for the receiving and grossing areas
- Perform computer specimen entry and editing with utmost accuracy
- Register patients in EPIC and enter data in Copath
- Research on-site patient history (clinical, radiology exams, prior treatment)
- Communicate with outside facilities or offices to collect incomplete patient information or history
- Manage the receipt, storage, and disposal of surgical pathology cases and specimens
- Prepare alcohol solutions, Hartman's, and Cryostat Fixative, and keep stocked
- Assist Pathologist and PA with specimen dissections and other requests
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 1 Year of experience in a laboratory setting or Associate's Degree/Technical Certification in a health related field
- Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite
- Interest and skills in biological sciences
