Pathology Support Technician

About This Role

This role involves preparing surgical pathology specimens, maintaining a clean and organized laboratory area, and managing telephone communications and computer specimen entry. Accuracy and attention to detail are paramount when handling medical information and patient data.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical pathology specimens
• Maintain surgical pathology preparatory area in a well-maintained and clean condition
• Manage telephones for the receiving and grossing areas
• Perform computer specimen entry and editing with utmost accuracy
• Register patients in EPIC and enter data in Copath
• Research on-site patient history (clinical, radiology exams, prior treatment)
• Communicate with outside facilities or offices to collect incomplete patient information or history
• Manage the receipt, storage, and disposal of surgical pathology cases and specimens
• Prepare alcohol solutions, Hartman's, and Cryostat Fixative, and keep stocked
• Assist Pathologist and PA with specimen dissections and other requests

Requirements

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• 1 Year of experience in a laboratory setting or Associate's Degree/Technical Certification in a health related field
• Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office Suite
• Interest and skills in biological sciences
