This Park Manager role involves overseeing park operations, maintaining facilities, and ensuring safety within the Southern Parks Division of Montgomery County. The manager will lead and develop a diverse team of maintenance staff while managing resources, budgets, and engaging with the community.
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct teams for park maintenance, renovation, and construction projects
- Plan, schedule, assign, and evaluate the work of designated personnel, including counseling and training staff
- Conduct park inspections to identify problems, generate service requests, and ensure corrections
- Operate assigned vehicle for duties, transport staff/equipment, and manage vehicle maintenance records
- Review blueprints and estimate staff, equipment, materials, and supplies for projects
- Provide technical assistance and supervise the operation of major equipment and tree maintenance activities
- Participate in budget preparation, monitor expenditures, and initiate purchase requisitions
- Ensure transactions are properly coded, approved, closed, reconciled in the general ledger, and documented in EAM
- Work with senior park managers to develop and implement revenue production programs and recommend fees/staffing
- Conduct research for conservation programs, develop goals, and coordinate with Park Naturalists for interpretive programs
- Meet with community organizations and citizens to develop special programs or resolve problems
- Provide general assistance to park visitors, take reservations, enforce park rules, and assist in investigations related to accidents/crimes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Park Management, Park Administration, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Science, Physical Science or any related field
- 1 year of park management experience with staff leadership
- Valid driver's license with no restrictions
- Ability to obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with appropriate endorsements within 12 months (depending on assignment)
- Ability to obtain and maintain applicable certifications within 12 months (e.g., Pesticide Applicator, Fertilizer Applicator, Playground Safety Inspector)
- Pass Commission medical examination
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Park Management, Park Administration, Outdoor Recreation, Natural Science, Physical Science or any related field
- 1 year of park management experience that includes leadership of staff, or an equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 5 years
Nice to Have
- Experience working with a Parks Dept. or other government organization
- Advanced ArcGIS skills
- Proficiency using a computer, modern office software, MS Office, enterprise software, and specialized software
