About This Role

The Paraeducator IB works in an intensive learning support and special education classroom environment, providing instructional and supervisory support to K-12 students with various disabilities. This role involves assisting with educational materials, monitoring academic progress, collecting student data, and implementing behavior plans.

Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with students and staff in intensive learning support and special education classrooms or other K-12 learning environments
  • Assist with a variety of instructional support and supervision duties for students with learning, communication, physical, behavioral, or emotional disabilities
  • Prepare educational materials
  • Monitor academic progress
  • Collect student data
  • Implement behavior plans
  • Maintain training and use proper physical transfer techniques, including use of the Hoyer lift

Requirements

  • At least eighteen years of age
  • High school diploma or its equivalent
  • Ability to obtain First Aid and CPR Certifications within 1 year of employment
  • Ability to obtain de-escalation and physical restraint training certification within 6 months of employment
  • Ability to obtain Special Education Subject Matter Certificate within 2 years of employment
  • Successful completion of mandatory, in-person training/orientation prior to official start date

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university, OR 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher, OR completion of a paraeducator apprenticeship, OR a passing score on a PESB approved assessment

  • Experience working with students in an educational setting
  • Evidence of interest in supporting learning experiences
  • Experience working with students with physical or cognitive disabilities
  • Experience working with students with behavior challenges or social/emotional issues
  • Training with cultural, ethnic and language diversity
