About This Role

This role involves maintaining county roadways, right-of-way, sidewalks, curbs, ditches, and culverts, responding to calls for service, and providing assistance during emergency events in Precinct One.

Responsibilities

  • Repair potholes, sinkholes, and street curbs
  • Blow and clean culverts and inlets
  • Grade ditches and install/repair culverts to ensure water flows freely
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations, including county safety standards
  • Provide assistance during emergency events such as flooding or ice storms
  • Perform pre-trip visual safety inspections of vehicles and heavy equipment
  • Check fluid levels and tires, maintain vehicle cleanliness, and perform routine maintenance

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience operating heavy machinery/equipment in a road and bridge environment
  • Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B (State of Texas)
  • Knowledge of driving laws and roadway construction
  • Ability to perform pre-trip visual safety inspection of vehicles and heavy equipment

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience operating heavy machinery/equipment in a road and bridge environment; up to 7 years required for Operator IV level.

Nice to Have

  • Experience operating heavy equipment including Dump Trucks, Dozer, Excavators, Front end loader, backhoe, Gradall, Graders, Jack Hammers, Maintainers, Water Trucks
  • Experience using shovels, rakes, and other equipment
  • Basic computer skills
