This Library Technician position is responsible for providing end-to-end customer service and connecting patrons with information at the Aldine Branch Library. The role involves managing customer accounts, supporting innovative programs, and demonstrating knowledge of all library operations.
Responsibilities
- Provide customer service and manage customer accounts using integrated library system software in the library and during outreach events
- Assist patrons with computers, answer phones, and help with assistance requests
- Check in and deliver holds, returned items, and new items
- Pull expired holds, shelve returned and new items, run reports, and look for lost items on shelves
- Provide basic reference service in the library and during outreach events
- Promote library services to the community
- Accurately enter data, handle sensitive customer information, and process cash transactions
- Maintain and promote an engaging and attractive library collection
- Attend staff meetings, activities, professional conferences, and actively serve on committees
Requirements
- Documentary evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
- One (1) year of customer service experience
- Proficiency in customer service principles
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment
- Ability to work well with public and staff members
- Proficiency in cash handling practices
- Ability to work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a discreet and effective manner
- Proficiency with Social Media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
- Proficiency with the Internet and Office 365
- Personal mobile device for Multifactor Authentication process
- Available and reliable transportation for work-related duties
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
- One (1) year of customer service experience
