About This Role

Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services to K-8 students as outlined in IEPs/504 plans at Johnston Charter Academy, assessing motor skills and collaborating with school staff and parents to support student development.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct and indirect occupational therapy services as outlined in students’ Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or Section 504 plans
  • Conduct assessments of motor, visual-motor, and sensory-motor skills for students referred for special education evaluation
  • Participate in the IEP/Section 504 process, providing input on assessment measures, intervention strategies, and student progress
  • Collaborate as a member of the special education team to deliver comprehensive services to students with disabilities
  • Consult with teachers, school administrators, parents, and relevant stakeholders regarding students’ physical, motor, and sensory development
  • Work closely with teachers to integrate occupational therapy goals into the classroom environment and support classroom objectives through therapy programs
  • Provide training to relevant individuals on effective methods to assist students in mainstream settings
  • Develop, implement, evaluate, and adjust occupational therapy interventions in collaboration with school staff and parents
  • Utilize treatment strategies involving physical, sensory, manual, creative, and recreational activities to support student development
  • Design adaptive equipment and devices for individual students and classroom use
  • Maintain an accurate record of student caseload requirements and update the Special Education Administrator on any changes
  • Maintain a detailed schedule and service logs, and track student progress toward therapy goals
  • Pursue ongoing professional development to stay informed about current practices and research in occupational therapy
  • Participate in school initiatives such as screening programs to support student development
  • Attend parent-teacher meetings as needed to discuss student progress and therapy plans
