Implement and adhere to occupational therapy standards of care, providing direct patient care as defined by state practice acts. Evaluate patients' functional status, develop treatment plans, and establish goals to improve function.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate patient's functional status (muscle function, endurance, visual coordination, communication skills, self-care ability, work capacity)
- Evaluate home environment for hazards or barriers to independent living and identify equipment needs
- Participate in the development of the total plan of care
- Develop treatment program and establish goals for improved function
- Communicate plan of care to referring physician and other professionals
- Teach new skills or retrain patient in daily activities lost due to illness or injury
- Fabricate splints and instruct patient in the use of various types of adaptive equipment
- Train patient in the use of prosthetic and/or orthotic devices
- Maintain appropriate clinical records, clinical notes, and report changes in patient's condition to the physician
- Maintain contact/communication with other personnel involved in the patient's care to promote coordinated, efficient care
- Supervise certified occupational therapy assistants
- Instruct, supervise and evaluate home health aide care every two (2) weeks when therapy is the only skilled service
- Participate in discharge planning for patient
Requirements
- Registered with the National Registration Examination of the American Occupational Therapy Association
- Good verbal and written communication, and organization skills
- Automobile in good working order and insured
Qualifications
- Graduate of an occupational therapy curriculum accredited jointly by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation of the American Medical Association and the American Occupational Therapy Association
- Two years of clinical experience as an occupational therapist, 1 year of general discipline experience (preferred)
