NETA Field Service Technician

About This Role

This NETA Field Service Technician role involves performing electrical testing, maintenance, and repair services on electrical distribution systems and equipment at customer sites. The technician will work with a team to ensure safety, efficiency, and high-quality standards in all operations.

Responsibilities

• Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems
• Perform instrument transformer tests
• Conduct power transformer testing including Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
• Test both electro-mechanical and solid state relays
• Perform cable testing including Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot
• Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches
• Perform testing on low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers
• Calibrate moderately complex relays and perform power metering
• Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner

Requirements

• Ability to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel
• 2+ years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting
• Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel
• Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently
• Willingness to travel a minimum of 40%

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or a EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee)
• 2+ years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting
