The Music Instructor at Madera Community College will be responsible for teaching music courses, developing and directing ensembles, and participating in curriculum development and program assessment, contributing to an equity-minded and student-centered educational environment.
Responsibilities
- Provide instruction in Music, including Music Theory and Musicianship, Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Guitar and Piano, and a range of community college music courses such as music appreciation, History of Rock, History of Jazz or History of Musical Theater
- Develop and direct a variety of large and small ensembles
- Teach music in distance education modalities, including hybrid and fully online
- Participate in the Curriculum Development process and unit/program planning process
- Attend and participate in appropriate professional meetings and workshops
- Maintain currency in the discipline
- Work with community and campus organizations
- Identify and recommend potential adjunct faculty to teach classes and assist in evaluating adjunct instructors
- Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed
- Participate in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning
- Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, on-line or off-campus and large group instruction classes as needed
Requirements
- Master’s in music; or Bachelor’s in music and Master’s in humanities; or a valid California Community College Credential
- Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Nice to Have
- Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Recent experience working with racially minoritized students
- Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support racially minoritized students
- Related work and professional experience
- Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students
- Degree emphasis in Music Performance with concentration on a guitar or keyboard instrument (piano, organ) or Music Education
- Post-secondary experience teaching music
- Professional experience as a guitarist or keyboardist (organ, piano, etc)
- Professional experience directing global music ensembles
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education
- Experience with web-based online learning and classroom technology
