MRI Technologist

About This Role

This role involves performing magnetic resonance imaging according to established standards of practice, providing patient education, and ensuring patient safety during procedures. The MRI Technologist will also be responsible for maintaining medical records and responding to emergency situations.

Responsibilities

• Receive, relay and document verbal, facsimile, electronic and/or telephone orders in the patient’s chart
• Provide education and prepare patients for procedures
• Select the appropriate protocol and optimize technical factors while maximizing patient safety
• Apply principles of ALARA to minimize exposure to patient, self and others
• Apply three basic principles of radiation safety: time, distance and shielding
• Observe patient and machine during procedure and report any unexpected outcomes
• Clean and disinfect x-ray room and equipment as per infection control policy
• Evaluate images for proper positioning and determine if additional images will improve the procedure or treatment outcome
• Evaluate images for technical quality and ensure proper identification is recorded
• Corroborate a patient’s clinical history with the procedure and ensure information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner

Requirements

• Graduated from an approved Joint Review Committee of Radiologic Technology program (JRCRTE)
• Successfully pass the registry that is administered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists within one year of post-graduation
• The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registration
• Current BLS certification
• State certifications/licensure as required by the state of practice

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved Joint Review Committee of Radiologic Technology program (JRCRTE)
• One year experience in diagnostic imaging preferred
