This role involves administering prescribed medications, documenting resident responses, and providing direct patient care within a healthcare setting, supporting medical staff and assisting with clinical and technical aspects of care.
Responsibilities
- Administer resident oral and topical medication(s) as prescribed by a physician and within the scope of practice of a Med Tech
- Verify identity of resident receiving medication and observe ingestion or other application
- Record name of drug, dosage, and time of administration in the system of record
- Take and record vital signs or observe resident to detect response to specified medications, and report unexpected reactions
- Document reasons prescribed drugs are not taken and maintain related medical records under supervision of the nurse and/or medical staff
- Provide direct patient care, including bathing, dressing, feeding patients, and assisting in examinations and treatments
- Identify and report deviations from safe practice, adhering to policies and guidelines of regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA)
- Provide escort service to residents as directed by supervisor and notify supervisor and oncoming staff of resident changes of condition
- Document care per policy and procedures, communicating and collaborating with other healthcare team members
- Participate in quality assessment and performance improvement activities and manage emergency situations
Requirements
- Completed designated Med Tech training or willing and able to complete
- Current CPR and AED certifications required or willing and able to become certified
- Current First Aid certification required or willing and able to become certified
- Ability to pass a comprehensive test based on basic pharmacology and medication safety
Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is preferred.
- 6 months prior Medication Technician experience preferred; prior experience working with geriatric clients preferred.
