Medical Assistant - Hem/Onc

About This Role

This role is responsible for patient assessment and care, maintaining documentation, and coordinating high-quality, compassionate patient care within an oncology setting. It integrates clinical duties with administrative tasks to support providers and manage patient needs.

Responsibilities

• Triage all calls, schedule daily urgent/emergent add-ons, and relay test results
• Support, direct, and refer patients for consults, testing, and manage insurance pre-certification
• Greet patients and families, perform routine pre-examination procedures including vital signs, and record objective/subjective data
• Update and maintain accurate patient records, including orders reconciliation and medication reconciliation
• Assist providers with examinations and procedures
• Prepare and clean patient areas, set up equipment, and sterilize medical instruments
• Perform patient care measures such as injections, minor dressing changes, and obtaining blood specimens
• Provide patient education on specialty care modalities, symptom management, and medication adherence
• Coordinate and ensure continuity of care with other providers
• Perform general office duties such as keyboarding, filing, telephone, and computer tasks as needed

Requirements

• BLS certification within 3 months of hire
• Active Medical Assistant certification/licensure (RMA, CMA, CCMA, MFR, EMT, Paramedic, RRAT)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 3 years experience in health care system or similar setting
• Competency in Microsoft Windows

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Knowledge of medical office policies, practices and procedures as normally acquired through three to five years working in the health care system or similar setting. Previous experience in a physician clinic setting preferred.

Nice to Have

• Completion of a Medical Assistant program through an accredited organization
• Previous experience in a physician clinic setting
