Endoscopy Technician

About This Role

This position performs tasks of varying complexity including cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing endoscopes and supporting equipment. The role also involves maintaining documentation, assisting physicians and nurses during procedures, and stocking supplies.

Responsibilities

• Clean, air leak test, disinfect/sterilize all scopes and supporting equipment in compliance with medical center policy
• Assist the nurse and physician in the treatment room with patient care, i.e., patient positioning/support, application of monitoring devices, assisting with equipment
• Maintain appropriate/accurate documentation records of the reprocessing and sterilization process
• Provide for sanitation of OR room after each case, stock work areas and OR rooms with sanitation supplies, linens, solutions, and specimen containers
• Compile the supplies needed for procedures
• Fulfill on-call responsibilities and extra shift coverage as needed
• Maintain immediate availability to assist in routine and emergency procedures
• Communicate with the Biomedical Department and department supervisor or manager to assure availability of properly functioning equipment and scopes
• Develop proficiency in the use of the Medivator, autoclave and Sterrad NX for processing of scopes and surgical instruments
• Assure compliance with regulatory agencies standards such as The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare Services (CMS), and the Michigan Department of Public Health (MDPH)

• Medical knowledge obtained through job experience on a nursing unit or other related healthcare setting
• Flexible scope reprocessing certification for full time Endoscopy Technicians preferred after 2 years of hire or transfer to position
