Manager: Legal Project Management

About This Role

Manage legal project management (LPM) engagements for partners and matter teams, delivering legal services efficiently and effectively. This role requires managing communications, implementing technology including AI, and overseeing internal and external resources to support the firm's clients.

Responsibilities

• Support Mayer Brown partners and matter teams by applying LPM techniques and tools, managing resources, scope, and budget, and allocating tasks.
• Develop project plans and track matter timelines, milestones, and dependencies using appropriate tools and reports.
• Set and communicate expectations for each engagement with the matter team and client.
• Facilitate matter team meetings and manage the interface between the client and Mayer Brown team for individual LPM engagements.
• Build strong relationships with partners to maintain a pipeline of managed matters.
• Proactively assist partners in line with the role’s responsibilities.
• Demonstrate understanding of legal, financial, and project-management concepts, providing clear and concise responses.
• Offer ideas for improving LPM activities and pursue professional development opportunities.
• Establish trust with partners and stay current with industry LPM trends, tools, and best practices.
• Assist with LPM training for lawyers, business services personnel, and clients, including guidance on LPM concepts and techniques.
• Manage multiple matters concurrently.

Requirements

• Minimum of five years of legal experience within a law firm
• Experience practicing law or in project management
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field
• Minimum of five years of legal experience within a law firm, with experience practicing law or in project management.

Nice to Have

• JD degree
• AmLaw 100 experience
• Understanding of effective prompt creation for generative artificial intelligence systems
