This role involves performing routine manual work in construction, maintenance, and repair activities for the City of Sunrise, with a focus on tree and landscape maintenance to ensure public safety and preserve city aesthetics.
Responsibilities
- Trim trees for clearance of overhead utility wires, street lighting, and to protect park patrons from injury
- Cut away dead, obstructive, or excess branches from trees and shrubbery
- Climb trees and use power saws, pruning poles, shears, and other cutting implements to remove branches
- Remove fallen trees from roadways and park areas; trim branches to preserve visibility of traffic control devices
- Operate, service, and maintain power saws, wood chippers, stump grinders, and other machinery and equipment
- Install Temporary Traffic Control for safety
- Dig and clean ditches and trenches; level dirt and asphalt; drive stakes; and break up rocks and concrete
- Load and unload heavy materials and tools from trucks and vans; move heavy objects and clean/wash vehicles
- Sweep walks; remove refuse and paper from grounds and buildings
- Follow safe work practices to eliminate and mitigate hazardous conditions
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Reasonable fulltime work experience in Building Maintenance or Public Works maintenance/repair
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to acquire an Intermediate Maintenance of Traffic certificate within 6 months
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited high school or GED equivalency diploma
- Reasonable fulltime work experience in Building Maintenance or Public Works (Grounds, Streets, and/or Stormwater) maintenance and/or repair functions.
