About This Role

Join a Maintenance Fellowship program to gain hands-on experience in various trades within the federal government, partnering with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. This role focuses on maintenance, project management, and leadership development across the National Wildlife Refuge System.

Responsibilities

  • Complete up to 3,000 hours of On-the-Job Learning (OJL) and a structured curriculum of academic learning to develop as a multiskilled maintenance professional
  • Track OJL hours with supervisors, trainers, and MIFP Coordinators
  • Participate in large-scale infrastructure projects at various locations
  • Complete Work Process Competencies Checklist to ensure meaningful and diverse OJL experience
  • Lead small projects, including planning for equipment, labor, supplies, and developing site safety plans
  • Complete and present a final Capstone project report with photos, cost estimation, and work summary
  • Complete tasks assigned by supervisors or day-to-day trainers, with 80% of time on maintenance-related tasks
  • Attend all required MIFP, station, and refuge meetings
  • Effectively communicate scheduling and needs with supervisor and MIFP coordinators

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED by start date
  • At least 18 years old and not older than 30 (veterans up to 35)
  • Available to serve for 6 or 12 months in a selected location
  • Ability to interpret oral and occasionally written instructions and specifications and follow safety practices
  • Skill in or ability to learn the operation of tools and equipment
  • Valid driver's license
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
