Join the Maintenance and Infrastructure Fellowship Program (MIFP) to gain hands-on experience in various trades within the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, working on maintenance projects in beautiful public lands and waters across the National Wildlife Refuge System. This role offers mentorship and training to launch a career in conservation-minded maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Complete up to 3,000 hours of On-the-Job Learning (OJL) and a structured curriculum emphasizing essential attributes for multiskilled maintenance professionals and leaders
- Track hours of On-the-Job Learning with supervisors, trainers, and MIFP Coordinators
- Participate in large-scale infrastructure projects like the Great American Outdoors Act Strike Force or Maintenance Action Team (MAT) projects
- Complete a Work Process Competencies Checklist covering OJL work process categories to ensure diverse learning experiences
- Lead a small Capstone project, planning for equipment, labor, supplies, developing a site safety plan, and presenting a final report
- Complete assigned maintenance-related tasks, dedicating 80% of time to maintenance and 20% to other refuge programs (Biology, Visitor Services)
- Attend all required MIFP, station, and refuge meetings
- Effectively communicate scheduling and needs with supervisor and MIFP coordinators
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED by start date
- At least 18 years old and not older than 30 (veterans up to age 35)
- Ability to interpret oral and occasionally written instructions and specifications
- Ability to follow safety practices
- Skills with or ability to learn the operation of tools and equipment
- U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Entry-level fellowship program designed for individuals with strong interest and foundational skills.
Nice to Have
- Strong interest in the FWS fellowship program
