About This Role

This Machinist I role involves reading and interpreting specifications, computing dimensions, and verifying product accuracy to perform machining operations. The successful candidate will contribute to the continuous improvement of cell processes and ensure adherence to safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret specification manuals, blueprints, templates, and layouts to determine machining operation to be performed
  • Compute dimensions and tolerances and measure and lay out work pieces
  • Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and modify to achieve expected performance
  • Adjust and set up machine tools for use by machining tool operators
  • Participate in continuous improvement of cell processes
  • Cross train in other complementary skills and seek endorsements as needed to support production requirements
  • Move between production assignments that utilize multiple skills endorsements as needed
  • Participate in the cross training of other technicians as needed
  • Observe all applicable safety requirements and report immediately any unsafe practices/conditions

Requirements

  • High degree of mechanical aptitude, accuracy and precision
  • Thorough knowledge of manufacturing, tool design, fabrication methods and processes, metallurgy and heat treating
  • Working knowledge of welding, hydraulics, electricity and pneumatics
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments and hand tools
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret blueprints
  • Strong mathematical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of related company instructions, company processes, rework process instructions, original equipment manufacturer manuals, and MSDS labels
  • Working knowledge of production management computer systems and other related internal control systems
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds (unassisted)

Qualifications

  • High school graduation and completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school (or equivalent)
  • 1-3 years of work experience representing continuous learning
