Long Term Substitute Social Studies Teacher

About This Role

Serve as a Long Term Substitute Social Studies Teacher to help students learn subject matter and skills contributing to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

Responsibilities

• Meet and instruct assigned classes in designated locations and times
• Plan a program of study that meets individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate to student maturity and interests
• Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request
• Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with physical limitations and student needs
• Strive to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals
• Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports
• Diagnose student learning disabilities and seek assistance from district specialists as required
• Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
• Assist administration in implementing policies governing student life and conduct, develop classroom behavior rules, and maintain order
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside of instructional day under reasonable terms
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and evaluate their performance
• Strive to maintain and improve professional competence
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees as required

Requirements

• Valid Indiana teaching license preferred
• Substitute Permit
