The Leadership Annual Giving Officer will increase donor engagement and philanthropic support for the University of Utah by qualifying, soliciting, and retaining leadership-level donors. This role focuses on supporting students and learning by working with individual colleges and identifying major gift prospects.
Responsibilities
- Manage a qualifying pool of up to 500 alumni and donor constituents, focusing on several colleges and schools.
- Move constituents through qualifying, renewal, and upgrade cycles daily.
- Utilize phone and written/video communication to qualify new donors and cultivate/solicit/steward existing donors.
- Communicate with constituents via phone, email, in-person meetings, LinkedIn, mail, Zoom, ThankView, and other industry tactics.
- Solicit and close gifts up to $5000, collaborating with campus areas on strategies and hand-offs.
- Steward donors to strengthen their engagement with the University and share updates with campus partners.
- Update, adjust, and maintain the donor portfolio with prospect research and management teams, keeping detailed contact reports and records.
- Stay current on annual giving and leadership/major gift trends through professional development and networking.
- Represent leadership annual giving at events and invite donors to virtual and in-person events.
- Collaborate with campus partners (e.g., U of U Health and Central Advancement) to provide the best donor experience and execute a One U strategy.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field, or equivalency
- 3+ years of experience in fund-raising which includes direct solicitation of contributions or in the sales industry with experience in leads, negotiation, and closing
- Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills

Nice to Have
- Demonstrated negotiating skills
- Experience with a large complex CRM platform, especially Salesforce
- Experience working within higher education annual giving or development
- Experience with negotiating and closing donations or sales
