This role is responsible for the professional social counseling work of average difficulty, overseeing a team providing social counseling services and performing related administrative work.
Responsibilities
- Assigns, trains, supervises, and evaluates staff providing professional social counseling services
- Reviews case narratives prepared by subordinate staff checking for correctness, completeness, and adherence to policy and procedure
- Makes recommendation on retention, promotion, demotion, and other human resources actions
- Discusses difficult cases with staff in order to assist in problem solving
- Gives technical advice to staff, families, and other provider agencies
- Determines, schedules, and provides in-service training for subordinate staff
- Supervises and participates in the preparation of narrative and simple statistical records and reports
- Assists in studying relevant policy and procedure and in making recommendations for change
- Explains and enforces policy and procedure for operations and functions within sphere of authority
Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in a social or behavioral science
- Experience equivalent to three years of full-time professional social or human services counseling work (or substitute graduate coursework)
- Agreement to complete a criminal history disclosure form
- Agreement to release all records involving criminal history to appointing authority
- Supply a fingerprint sample for a fingerprint based criminal history records check
- Submit to a review of status on the Department of Health's vulnerable persons registry
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a social or behavioral science
- Three years of full-time professional social or human services counseling work; additional qualifying graduate coursework in social work may be substituted for the required experience, on a year-for-year basis, to a maximum of two years; OR three years of full-time professional social or human services counseling experience with the State of Tennessee.
