This Junior Electrical Engineer position involves designing and developing electrical systems for institutional and commercial facilities. The role includes creating drawings and specifications, reviewing construction submittals, conducting site visits, and coordinating with project stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Develop drawings and specifications for electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and communication systems, for institutional and commercial facilities (new buildings and renovations).
- Perform all design tasks and calculations required to support drawing development.
- Review and comment on electrical construction submittals, shop drawings, and record drawings for compliance with contract requirements.
- Visit construction sites to review the work of contractors for compliance with all drawings and specifications.
- Interact and coordinate with Architects, facility owners, colleagues, contractors, and other project stakeholders to provide excellent client service.
- Serve as the firm’s lead electrical designer on designated projects.
Requirements
- General understanding of electrical construction practices
- Good working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and all applicable Virginia Construction Codes
- Good working knowledge of Autodesk design suite software including AutoCAD and Revit
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work effectively within multi-discipline Architectural and Engineering project teams
- Excellent organizational and problem solving skills with attention to detail
- Ability to successfully handle multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment with minimal oversight
Qualifications
- A four-year electrical engineering degree from an accredited university or equivalent on the job training
- 0-5 years minimum of electrical engineering design experience with large and small-scale institutional or commercial projects from schematic design through construction administration.
Nice to Have
- EIT (Engineer in Training) certification
- PE (Professional Engineer) license
