This mid-level ITS Design Engineer will lead the analysis and design of technological solutions for transportation problems, focusing on ITS and communication network projects. The role involves managing plan and specification development, coordinating with other disciplines, and mentoring junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Develop ITS design criteria and assist with systems engineering documentation, including Concepts of Operation, Standard Operating Procedures, and Maintenance Plans
- Complete design layouts for fiber optic and wireless communication systems, device installation, fiber structures, pull boxes, conduits, splice points, and electrical power feeds
- Develop conceptual design graphics for cabinet wiring schematics, network architecture, field equipment integration, and fiber optic splicing
- Develop specifications for construction using appropriate federal, state, or municipal standards
- Use computer-aided design software (Civil3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads & OpenRoads) for ITS systems and networks design
- Coordinate ITS design elements with other design disciplines and subconsultants
- Oversee the work of junior engineers and designers in the production of ITS construction contract documents and overall plan sets
- Maintain organized electronic records of ITS related action items, design decisions, variances, and project correspondence
- Develop overall project opinion of probable costs using current construction cost data
- Assist in client contact, presentations, and preparation for project-related meetings
- Assist the project manager in meeting project schedules and staying within budget for ITS design tasks
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 5 to 10 years of transportation engineering experience (ITS, Connected Vehicle, traffic, and/or transit design)
- Professional Engineer license in Colorado (or obtain within six months)
- Modeling, design, and plan production experience with Civil3D and/or MicroStation/InRoads/Open Roads
- Experience in development of ITS plans, specifications, and opinions of probable costs
- Ability to multi-task several projects, manage budget and schedule
- Ability to prepare technical reports and business correspondence with Microsoft Office applications
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field
- 5 to 10 years of transportation engineering experience including ITS, Connected Vehicle, traffic, and/or transit design engineering
