Serve as a front-line professional for the Indiana Civil Rights Commission, providing direct public-facing support related to civil rights inquiries and complaint intake. This role involves conducting intake interviews, analyzing information, and preparing case files while ensuring compliance with Indiana Civil Rights Law and applicable federal regulations.
Responsibilities
- Respond professionally and timely to public inquiries via phone, online submissions, and in-person interactions
- Conduct intake interviews with potential complainants to gather and document relevant information
- Analyze and summarize information received through online inquiries and interviews
- Prepare and organize investigative case files for civil rights investigations
- Draft and send Notices of Complaints and interrogatories to relevant parties
- Apply Indiana Civil Rights Law and Federal Civil Rights Laws to determine jurisdiction and case eligibility
- Provide excellent customer service while handling sensitive and confidential matters
- Perform monthly reporting and maintain accurate case documentation
- Research databases to identify correct contact information for parties and witnesses
- Draft administrative motions when required, including dismissals and default orders
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 6 months of administrative or clerical experience
- Previous legal coursework or paralegal-type training
- Practical knowledge of Indiana Civil Rights Law and Federal Civil Rights Laws
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to type with speed and accuracy
- Proficiency with computers and Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to handle confidential information with integrity and professionalism
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 6 months of administrative or clerical experience

- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
