About This Role

Join the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) as a Highway Maintenance Specialist in Southeast Denver, where you will perform essential roadway maintenance with CDL training provided. This role is critical for ensuring the safety and quality of Colorado's transportation infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Plow snow to maintain clear roadways
  • Operate heavy equipment such as tandem dump trucks, loaders, and tractor mowers
  • Mow grass and weeds along highways
  • Remove debris from roadways, culverts, and tunnels
  • Shovel gravel, sand, concrete, and asphalt
  • Dig ditches for drainage
  • Install and repair guardrails, highway markers, signs, and lighting
  • Fill potholes and roadway cracks
  • Set out signs and cones for traffic control and emergencies
  • Maintain equipment and perform minor repairs

Requirements

  • 2+ years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience
  • Current, valid regular driver’s license
  • Obtain CDL Permit within 30 days of hire
  • Obtain valid CDL Class A or B with no air brake restriction within 120 days of hire

Qualifications

  • At least two (2) years of physical labor and/or heavy equipment operation experience.

  • Experience operating equipment (single/tandem axle dump trucks, front end loaders, bulldozers, backhoes)
  • Experience using hand tools
