About This Role

Instruct Health Information Technology courses at Fresno City College, focusing on health information management, medical coding, and related theory. The role involves teaching, mentoring students, curriculum development, and active participation in professional associations and campus committees.

Responsibilities

  • Teach courses in health information management, including medical coding, medical terminology, pathophysiology, and health record data content
  • Teach online, hybrid, or face-to-face classes
  • Support, mentor, and advise students in a multicultural setting, including scheduling sufficient weekly office hours on campus
  • Evaluate student learning against AHIMA Entry-Level Competencies for Health Information Management
  • Assist in implementation and assessment of curriculum, program accreditation standards, and program goals
  • Participate in program review and student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning
  • Attend faculty meetings and participate in campus committees
  • Coordinate advisory committee meetings and establish relationships with the professional community
  • Maintain continuous professional membership in the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and California Health Information Association (CHIA)
  • Establish and maintain practicum settings and arrange student placement for professional practice experience
  • Collaborate with high schools offering dual enrollment HIT courses

Requirements

  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or Associate degree and six years of professional experience, or a valid California Community College Credential, or equivalent education/experience
  • 2 years of full-time equivalent professional experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 6 years with an Associate's degree

Nice to Have

  • Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized students and understanding historical exclusion patterns in higher education
  • Willingness to examine and remediate instructional practices to support racially minoritized students
  • Related work and professional experience
  • Experience working with computers and other technologies for instruction
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff
  • Master's degree or candidate in progress in a related field
  • Certification as RHIT, RHIA, CPC-H, or CCS
  • Certificate for online teaching
  • At least one year teaching experience in an accredited health information technology program
  • Current knowledge of Evidence Based Decision Making and Emerging Workforce Models
  • Certification as required by CAHIIM
  • Experience directing and managing program operations, including faculty professional development, planning, budgeting, and generating reports for CAHIIM
  • Experience working with various instructional technologies
  • Knowledge of the community college mission and goals
