Head of AI Platform Engineering

About This Role

This visionary executive role involves architecting and scaling the AI, ML, and GenAI platform to drive MassMutual's growth, enhance customer experience, and achieve operational excellence. The Vice President will set the strategic direction and lead the engineering of a secure, scalable, and enterprise-grade platform. The position is crucial for responsibly harnessing the full potential of advanced AI to transform the business.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver the core AI/ML/GenAI platform to empower rapid prototyping, deployment, and operationalization of advanced AI solutions
• Build and evolve a cloud-native, multi-tenant platform supporting the full lifecycle of machine learning and generative AI
• Embed robust MLOps and LLMOps practices, governance, and ethical guardrails to ensure transparency, compliance, and trust in AI-driven solutions
• Partner with senior leaders to align AI platform capabilities with strategic business priorities, unlocking new revenue streams, operational efficiencies, and differentiated customer value
• Attract, develop, and retain a diverse, high-performing team of AI/ML engineers and platform specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning
• Stay ahead of emerging trends in agentic AI, retrieval-augmented generation, multi-modal models, and next-gen ML architectures, championing integration into production-ready solutions
• Lead cross-functional teams and collaborate with product, research, and business stakeholders to ensure AI/ML/GenAI initiatives deliver measurable business outcomes

Requirements

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 10+ years of engineering experience
• 5+ years leading AI/ML platform or infrastructure teams
• Deep expertise in AI/ML/GenAI technologies
• Deep expertise in cloud-native architectures (AWS, Azure, GCP)
• Deep expertise in MLOps/LLMOps
• Deep expertise in modern data/ML toolchains
• Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale AI/ML platforms and solutions
• Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to lead in a highly collaborative, matrixed environment

Qualifications

• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
• 10+ years of engineering experience, with 5+ years leading AI/ML platform or infrastructure teams

• Experience in financial services or regulated industries
• Strong publication or patent history in AI/ML/GenAI
