Director, Investment Performance and Analytics

About This Role

Lead the Investment Performance and Analytics team within Controllers Organization, managing investment accounting and analysis for MassMutual's investment products. This role focuses on ensuring accurate financial reporting outcomes, driving process improvements, and providing meaningful analysis for insurance accounting activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the team in developing comprehensive data analysis and expectation of investment return and performance by major and minor assets types
• Perform flux analysis and provide insight into variance of investment performance
• Analyze trends and results, collaborating with peers and the financial reporting team to draft commentary
• Support the Controller & Financial reporting team in providing accounting information for financial statements, footnote schedules, regulatory reports, and other management reports
• Collaborate with accounting policy, the Chief Investment Office, tax, financial reporting, capital management, and business unit controllers
• Lead the research and implementation of new GAAP investment accounting requirements
• Determine accounting processes for new investments and investment-related transactions
• Identify and implement accounting improvements that increase business value and efficiency
• Lead increasingly complex projects and continuous improvement activities
• Lead problem-solving to improve quality, close cycle times, increase efficiencies, and improve employee and customer satisfaction

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 8+ years of data analytics, performance measurement, accounting or financial reporting experience in Assets Management or Financial Services industry

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
• 8+ years of data analytics, performance measurement, accounting or financial reporting experience in Assets Management or Financial Services industry

Nice to Have

• Prior exposure to investment accounting, fixed income data analytics and investment performance reporting and related investment matters
• CPA or CFA progress towards completion
• Experience working on big data, logical analytics and ratio analysis and presentation
• Experience identifying internal control issues and remediation efforts
• Experience working with and supporting several corporate units
• Experience working with Python, SQL, C++, Power BI, Tableau and other data analytics tools
• Strong root cause problem solving experience
• Ability to partner with and influence business leaders and peers in investment process redesign and improvements
• Experience using investment data and information to analyze and communicate the implications of investment accounting and ERP tools (SAP, MicroStrategy, etc.)
