Grossing Technician II

About This Role

The Grossing Technician II performs accurate gross description and dissection of surgical specimens, assisting assigned anatomic and clinical pathologists. This role ensures thorough and organized processing according to established guidelines and maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate gross description and dissection of surgical specimens according to established guidelines
• Proficiently handle GI, Derm, Prostate, and Breast tissue types
• Familiarize with non-complex surgical specimens
• Accurately prioritize and triage specimens
• Handle and dispose of specimens and chemical waste based on procedural manuals
• Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies
• Aid in discrepancy resolution
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
• Perform Quality Control and Quality Assurance tests and maintain documentation and logs
• Report concerns of test quality and/or patient or employee safety to a Supervisor or Safety Officer
• Utilize Laboratory Information System(s) for assigned tasks

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, or chemical laboratory science or related field
• Minimum of two (2) years of grossing experience
• Meet Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA ’88) criteria to perform high complexity testing
• High degree of technical knowledge in processing specimens (as defined by CAP)
• Ability to communicate effectively via voice dictation software to create gross descriptions
• High degree of care and attention with strict adherence to defined clinical testing protocols
• High level of attention to detail in technical data interpretation and ability to troubleshoot
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet for business use)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in biological, chemical, or chemical laboratory science or related field
• Minimum of two (2) years of grossing experience
