Manage the General Merchandise (GM) and Health and Beauty Care (HBC) departments, focusing on customer service, inventory control, and employee supervision, while ensuring adherence to company procedures and profitability.
Responsibilities
- Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with emphasis on fast and friendly Customer Service
- Assist customers by making product suggestions
- Engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- Answer and respond to incoming calls appropriately
- Receive and appropriately resolve customer complaints, reporting to the Store Director as needed
- Take responsibility for total store operations in the absence of the Store Director
- Plan GM daily operations and monitor production processes following company procedures and profitability
- Build GM/HBC displays, rotate and discard outdated or spoiled product, and ensure cleanliness of work area and department
- Implement effective promotional and seasonal displays
- Follow and maintain department standards and requirements
- Monitor employee productivity and evaluate overall performance
- Schedule employees to ensure adequate coverage and service levels
- Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to department employees
- Train employees in store policies, sales, and record-keeping procedures
- Identify and train employees with high potential for advancement opportunities
- Ensure proper code dating for all products within the department is enforced
- Initiate personnel actions such as pre-employment interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary actions
- Prepare sales and inventory reports; conduct physical inventory every 6 months
- Control inventory to ensure adequate product quantity, quality, and freshness, and maintain inventory levels
- Order general merchandise product and maintain inventory levels according to Division directives
- Supervise the processing of all reclamation and maintain orderly and in-stock conditions in back rooms and all Drug Department areas
- Control shrink and cost
- Use and operate related equipment such as pallet jack, hand truck, scissors, knives, and safety cutters
Requirements
- Ability to follow and maintain department standards and requirements
- Specific knowledge of duties performed by all department employees, including opening and closing duties
- Working knowledge of company policies and guidelines as outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook
