Firefighter/Paramedic

About This Role

This Firefighter/Paramedic role involves specialized work in fire prevention and suppression, coupled with providing critical life-saving emergency medical services (EMS) for the City of Wellington, KS.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire and medical calls
• Make forcible entry into buildings when necessary
• Assist in rescue operations involving vehicle accidents, structure fires, and industrial accidents
• Assist in the suppression of fires
• Perform salvage and ventilation work
• Operate a variety of tools and equipment, including power saws, generators, and rescue tools
• Operate firefighting apparatus and equipment
• Correctly implement emergency medical procedures
• Operate medical vehicle and equipment to the skill level of training
• Assist with loading and transferring patients

Requirements

• High school diploma or G.E.D.
• Kansas certified EMT
• Valid Class B Kansas Drivers License
• Knowledge of all fire control methods and techniques
• Knowledge of fire and building codes, life safety codes, hazardous materials and construction materials
• Knowledge of EMS methods, procedures and techniques
• Good oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
• Ability to receive and interpret written and oral instructions
• Ability to operate all firefighting, rescue, emergency medical equipment and department apparatus

Qualifications

• High school diploma or G.E.D. required
• General knowledge of firefighting and EMS procedures. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills to perform the job reasonably well after one year in the position.
