Environmental Intern

About This Role

Intern for the Waste Programs Division at the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, focusing on environmental science within a regulatory agency to protect public health and the environment.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate field sampling data
• Conduct environmental research
• Draft technical plans and reports
• Assist with federal grant writing and budget management
• Engage with Federal, State, and Local Government entities
• Perform GIS data processing
• Evaluate environmental data collection methods and results
• Assist Project Manager with historical document and desktop research for Site Assessments utilizing existing databases
• Support the Project Manager in preparing key EPA deliverables
• Contribute to the planning and cost budgeting for the next fiscal year's federal grant cooperative agreement and work plan

Requirements

• Strong background in environmental science
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proven experience with technical writing and environmental research
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, meet deadlines, and assist with multiple projects
• Attention to detail
• Computer proficiency (Microsoft Word/Excel or Google Docs/Sheets)
• GPA of 3.0 or better
• Right to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship
• Candidate must be at least 18 years old

Qualifications

• Junior or Senior year of a BS/BA or working towards a Masters/PhD program

Nice to Have

• Degree in geology, chemistry, environmental sciences, or environmental policy
