Endoscopy RN

About This Role

The Endoscopy RN provides comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing gastrointestinal and related endoscopic procedures, including pre-procedure preparation, intra-procedure assistance, sedation monitoring, and post-procedure recovery. This role involves collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care before, during, and after endoscopy procedures
• Administer and monitor conscious sedation and manage patient responses during procedures
• Assist physicians with endoscopic procedures including biopsies, polyp removal, and hemostasis
• Monitor patient condition, vital signs, and cardiac rhythms, reporting changes promptly
• Provide pre- and post-procedure patient education and discharge instructions
• Document all nursing assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately
• Maintain a safe and clean environment, adhering to infection control and safety protocols
• Handle specimens appropriately and ensure proper labeling and documentation
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives and staff education
• Respond effectively to emergencies and follow facility emergency protocols

Requirements

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• Strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills
• Proficient in IV therapy, sedation monitoring, and airway management
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
• Competency in electronic documentation and EMR systems

Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), preferred
• Minimum 6 months of clinical nursing experience in a direct patient care setting preferred; Previous endoscopy, perioperative, or critical care experience preferred
